K-M senior takes home a national academic honor

He was in band, playing his trombone, when he got the news: he’d been named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Adam Darveaux, 18, of Kasson, said he was surprised by the news, which he heard from his Kasson-Mantorville High School principal Trent Langemo back in November.
His parents, he said, are proud.

Then and Now

In November 1982, Mantorville area resident Phil Scholer, won 1st place in the Federal Duck Stamp contest for 1983-84 among 1,564 entries. Phil and Sheryl Scholer were in attendance in Washington DC during the judging and this was the first time the artist of the winning entry was there in person. Phil had previously won state duck stamp contests in Minnesota and Nevada.

A short time ago, a committee announced their choice for a new Minnesota state flag. It took months sorting through the various submitted options. After the choice was finally made, there was a firestorm of comments all over social media as to why this was a terrible choice. Emotions ran high and reactions reflected some deep-seated feelings about the flag.

MPCA seeks input on existing feedlot in Dodge County

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is accepting feedback on an existing feedlot in Dodge County.
Toquam Hogs of rural Blooming Prairie has filed for a permit to continue operating a facility that houses up to 3,920 hogs. The facility is located at 68707 130th Ave. in Ripley Township.
The MPCA Commissioner has made a preliminary determination to issue the permit for two and a half years.
