A Byron resident has announced she is seeking the DFL endorsement for Minnesota House District 24A.
Heather Holmes has announced she is running for the District 24A seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Holmes currently serves as a member of the Byron Independent School District 531 School Board and the City of Byron Diversity Council. She also has over two decades of experience in scientific research.

There is still time for residents in the Kasson-Mantorville school district to complete a survey on what they think the district should be looking for in a superintendent.

Every new year brings new laws into effect. Here are a few of the new laws now in place in Minnesota.
Political contribution refund increases
State law provides for a refund for political contributions made to Minnesota political parties and candidates for state offices.

It is safe to assume that 2024 will bring many challenges. That is just a given for every year. Some of those challenges will be individual but some will be local, state, nationally, and globally. But perhaps the biggest challenge will come with the 2024 election cycle. The new year has just begun, and we are already facing challenges such as war in Ukraine, war in the Middle East, global warming, inflation and rising prices.

For many decades, sets of encyclopedias were located on the shelves in our school and town libraries and also in some people’s homes. An annual update would be available to purchase to show what current events happened during the year. Of course this was before we had the internet and we had never heard of Google or Wikipedia. Funk and Wagnalls discontinued printing a hard copy in 1997.

About a week before Christmas, 52 local families received gifts for their children and a gift certificate for the local grocery store because of the caring and generosity of our local community. The Kasson-Mantorville Area Care & Share organization funded this particular outreach for those in need.
