NRHEG shocks Vikings with second half rally

The Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy girls basketball team’s season came to an end last week, after losing to NRHEG 64-62 in the Section 1A championship game.
Despite trailing 37-32 at halftime and losing leading scorer Camryn VanMaldeghem to an injury late in the first half, NRHEG still found a way to rally and outscore the Vikings 32-25 in the final 18 minutes to shock the Vikings.

Wildcats’ state tourney  run comes to quick end

The Dodge County boys hockey team’s season came to an end last week after two games at the Class A State tournament in the Twin Cities.
The opening round game against top-seeded Hibbing/Chisholm was a 0-0 game at the end of the first period.
In the second period, Hibbing/Chisholm scored three goals to take a 3-0 lead going into the third period.
Both teams traded goals, and Hibbing/Chisholm picked up the 4-1 win.

Richards wins first state title

Parker Richards, a junior at Kasson-Mantorville High School, grew up in the K-M wrestling community.
“I have been wrestling since I was In preschool,” Richards said. “I joined when I was little because Kasson had a good wrestling program, so my parents got me involved.”

Chasing records and recordings

When Triton eighth grader Adriana Kunz won her second consecutive state championship last weekend in St. Paul, an arena full of fans and spectators applauded her as the referee raised her hand in victory.
While almost every set of hands in attendance was either clapping, whistling or high fiving, her father’s remained steady, trying to his best to record the moment his daughter became a two-time champion.

Kunz wins second straight title

Triton's eighth grader Adriana Kunz, won her second straight girls wrestling tournament on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul. 

She won her title match in the 112 pound weight class, on a 14-1 major decision over Monticello's Roselane Verrett. 

15 area wrestlers  advance to state meet

Fifteen area wrestlers will be advancing to the state wrestling tournament held this week in St. Paul, after finishing first or second at their respective section meets.
For the girls, Triton’s Adriana Kunz previously qualified in the 112 pound weight class; Hattie Mathre, from Byron, in the 136 pound weight class; and Eliana O’Donoghue, in the 100 pound weight class, is the first female wrestler to qualify for Kasson-Mantorville.
