The bluffs and extensive cropland of Southeast Minnesota sit on a geologic terrain called karst. In Southeast Minnesota, karst is made up of limestone and dissolves easily to form fractures, and holes below the surface. The porous qualities of karst allow water to travel underground quickly and its limestone dissolves easily which prevents the filtering of groundwater.
Members of the Minnesota Senate Capital Investment Committee made a stop in Dodge Center last week as they visited cities throughout southeastern Minnesota. The committee members were in the midst of a multi-day day tour of Minnesota communities that have requested their projects be considered by the state when the legislature reconvenes in 2024.

Members of Dodge County Fire Departments converged on a home in Dodge Center last Saturday as part of a training exercise. They were called to the home on Highway 56 which was set ablaze by firefighters so they could practice searching and rescuing inside a burning building.
