Early in the season, the Triton Cobras boys basketball team has been able to stay competitive, but when games get too close, you can only test fate so many times. The Cobras came up on the short end after a successful tournament a week ago by falling to Bethlehem Academy 56-53 in Fairbault last Tuesday night.

For several months, residents in the neighborhood of Chestnut and Ninth Street in Mantorville have been plagued by acts of vandalism, city council member Don Hofstad reported to fellow city council members at their regular meeting on Nov. 23.
The most recent incidents included damage to siding on homes apparently caused by pellet guns, the cutting of Christmas light wires and houses being egged.

Two favorite Christmas characters will be making appearances in West Concord this year at the city’s annual community Christmas celebration.
Santa Claus will be at the Farmers State Bank again this year from 9 a.m. to noon to hear the wishes of area youngsters. There will also be a coloring contest and Sharing Tree at the bank. But this year there will also be an opportunity to have a picture taken with Frosty the Snowman.

Dodge Center will likely be approving a 9.46% increase in the budget levy for 2016 later this month.
City Administrator Lee Mattson told council members last week that the staff had the 2016 budget down to a 9.46% increase from the 10.57% increase that the council had certified earlier. The council had indicated when the figure was certified that they would like to see it reduced further if possible.

ere will be times whern a team needs to learn some small lessons. In order to succeed, the team needs to be able to apply those lessons quickly and use that knowledge moving forward.
For the Dodge County girls hockey team, its first lesson came at the Academy of Holy Angels Thanksgiving tournament in Richfield, where the team fell to Benilde-St. Margarets on Friday night, but rebounded to defeat Holy Angels on Saturday.

In the game of basketball a lot of things can go wrong, but still give you an opportunity to win the game. For example, someone stepping up from the bench can offset a rough night by a scorer. A poor effort from the free throw line can be overcome by some hot shooting as well.

Growing up in rural Minnesota meant only one thing in our household. Our radio was tuned to WCCO-Radio, the 50,000-watt blow torch that blankets much of the upper Midwest.
I grew up listening to one of the nation’s most enduring and popular radio duos of all time, Boone and Erickson. They were a hit in our household for much of their 40 years of existence, even before my time. 

Dena Marie Houston, age 48, of Kasson passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, with her husband and father by her side following a brief bout with cancer.
Dena was born Aug. 19, 1967, in Rochester, Minnesota.  She lived in Byron before moving to Mantorville when she was 12 years old.  She moved to Kasson with Mark Houston in 1986.  They had two children, Alex and Samantha.  They were married June 25, 1994.

Evelyn May Dostal, 92, of Kasson, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 at Prairie Meadows Senior Living in Kasson.
