Last week was one of those weeks!
Has anyone ever had one of those days when everything begins to pile up like a train wreck?
Last week was just that at the Dodge County Independent. At first, a few Byron subscribers did not get their DCI and that was followed up by phones on Friday with disgruntled folks in Hayfield, with each caller stating no one in town received last week’s DCI.

Has anyone else noticed Canadian geese flying south with suitcases in tow? This April weather has even migratory birds wondering, what gives?
Winter has been reluctant to loosen its grip on Minnesota. Cold, driven by harsh bone-chilling winds from the Canadian north has been plunging south onto the plains of southeastern Minnesota after seemingly given up in March when highs reached the 70s.

It’s time to get the boat ready for the Minnesota fishing opener, which is May 15. Clean the inside of old bait, be certain that the pedestal seats are comfortable, not cracked and rotting and get the rod and reel out of the rod rack in the garage.
There’s nothing like the fishing opener in Minnesota that excites fishermen and women.
Bass, walleye, trout, northern pike and perch are fair game just one month from today.

Dodge County claims No. 2 at first ever Minnesota State High School League tournament in St. Paul. They eventually fell to Gentry Academy, but not before defeating Hermantown’s Hawks and Little Falls’ Flyers in quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

Hockey, wrestling, March Madness and a host of high school and college sports are bombarding all of us.
Over the weekend, Kasson-Mantorville, Hayfield and Byron wresters took their place on center stage.

Minnesotans know it’s spring when Old Man Winter teases us with some spring-like temperatures and then dumps a boatload of snow on us! That defining occurrence is out of the way, so it’s on to the traditional sign of spring–high school tournament time!
Hockey playoffs have begun (boys and girls), with the state tournament slated for the Excel Center in St. Paul.
