No one likes moving! I have moved five other newspapers to different buildings in four different states. This move from Main Street to the old Shopko building nearly killed me.
Every piece of equipment: desks, computer, printers, shelving, copiers and every gadget needed to publish a newspaper had to be moved.

Did you hear it early last week? It was the sound of cars driving on slushy roads. Big deal? Well, after the Polar Vortex parked on the state over the past few weeks, the sound of slush is a welcome signal that spring is just around the corner.
For most Minnesotans winter is no big deal. Snowmobilers love the winter, ice fishermen and women, ice skaters; kids sliding on area hills spend time outside and don’t stare at iPad screens.

Today’s the day! It’s the day we, the staff of the Dodge County Independent, move to our new location at 301 South Mantorville Ave. Suite 200, a.k.a. the old Shopko building.
We chose the location right next to Clem’s Cups & Cones for obvious reasons. (I know, no one was thinking of an ice cream cone last week when we were invaded by a Polar Vortex. But, summer’s coming!)

Have you ever tried downsizing. Older folks generally have trouble parting with things that have been a part of their home and life for decades. Pictures of the kids returning home from their first day of kindergarten get a “we can’t part with that.”

We’ve lost our lease.
Yep, we have to vacate our office by February 28.
Our building’s owner wants to develop other businesses in the entire building.
This spot on Main Street has been home to the DCI and ADvantage for the past five years. Let’s call it familiar.

After decades of round steering wheels there’s a car company designing the future cars it manufactures sporting rectangular steering ‘wheels’ on its Model S and X.

We have a few Teslas around town, but the sci-fi looking Tesla cockpits will impress even the skeptics who view electric cars and trucks as futuristic.
