War is Hell, but “Hacksaw Ridge” certainly isn’t.

“Rules don’t apply” is not just the title to this romantic movie, but the director’s warning as well.
The film, set in the 60’s, is about billionaire Howard Hughes…sort of. 
It’s actually about one of the many actresses he keeps under contract and the man who rises from one of his drivers to his right hand man.

The Dodge County courthouse and Government Services buildings in Mantorville will be closed to the public, Dec. 16, from 2:30 – 7 p.m. for an active shooter training exercise.
The purpose behind the exercise is to provide training to Dodge County public safety responders, as well as county office employees in general, in the event of an active shooter emergency. 

During the Nov. 22 meeting of the Dodge County Board of Commissioners, county engineer, Guy Kohnhofer, presented an extensive list of potential county road and bridge repair and replacement projects that could see progress over the next five years.

In a sport like basketball or football, you’ll see a lot of teams trying to fluff their record with some easy non-conference schedule games. At the college level, you’ll see something like North Carolina hosting The Citadel in basketball or Alabama hosting Florida A&M in football. In games like that, the teams wind up getting the victory, but what are they really gaining?

The Triton boys basketball team kicked off their season with their annual Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday afternoon. With a four team field that included the Cobras, Blooming Prairie, Kenyon-Wanamingo and Schaeffer Academy, Triton was able to split their two contests to wind up with a second-place finish.

On paper, it looks like the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team will be one of the favorites to repeat as Class AA wrestling champions in the 2016-17 season. As the top-ranked team in the state and one that finds itself 33rd in the nation, it would be easy for the KoMets to coast into tournaments like the Winona Invite on Saturday knowing that they were the team to beat.

Touring the labyrinthine dining rooms of The Hubbell House in Mantorville, the sheer weight of the building’s history presses down on you from seemingly every wall. From the moment you enter the iconic restaurant, you’re confronted with historical relics and photographs that chronicle both the timeless building itself  as well as the communities that radiate out and around the former stagecoach route hotel.

Although it’s only the first week of December, Santa has been busier than the candidates who ran for office this past year. There was a Santa sighting at the Dodge Center City Hall Saturday. He came checking some sort of list that he had with him. A list concerning “naughty and nice,” and he happily reported that all the kids who visited him Saturday were on the “nice” list.
