Question: Hello, we took a trip to the cities this summer. While down there we came across these freeway ramp meters. I know we don’t have those in out-state Minnesota but I thought you might be able to write about it in one of your articles for anyone that travels. Thank you for all you do and be safe!

Chateau Speedway suffered race cancellations last weekend when showers shut down the track for the first time since Friday, July 5.
The track will be back in action for its Stinger Attachments Friday Night Racing slate scheduled for Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.

Free Road Maps at State Fair
Now that many oil companies have discontinued giving away road maps, visitors to the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, August 23-Septemper 2, will be pleased to know they may have a copy of the official 1974 Minnesota highway map for the asking at the Highway Department booth in the state exhibits building on Machinery Hill.

Sherry Whalen, in northwest Kasson, is showing the neighbor’s day care children the life cycle of the monarch butterfly, that she has in various stages in the containers. She has released almost 30 monarchs so far this summer. When she finds an egg on a milkweed plant, she puts the leaf with the egg in a container jar, or the birds may likely eat the larva before they will hatch.

As summer winds down, construction on local highways continues with reconstruction of Hwy 57 through Mantorville nearing completion and work on Hwy 56 in West Concord just beginning.
Work on Hwy 57 through Mantorville has been under way since April and MnDOT officials said last week that paving was being done and they would likely have more information on when the roadway could reopen to traffic in “the next week or so.”

The Y-Cafe was located on the west edge of Kasson where Highway 14 went over the railroad tracks (north of Woodward Repair) before the expansion of the four-lane from Byron to west of Kasson. In 1974 it was announced that the highway construction project was being delayed until 1975 as they needed to study the environmental impact of the expansion of widening Mantorville Avenue by Maston Creek to the new Hwy 14.
