Hwy 57 work nears conclusion; work on Hwy 56 begins

As summer winds down, construction on local highways continues with reconstruction of Hwy 57 through Mantorville nearing completion and work on Hwy 56 in West Concord just beginning.
Work on Hwy 57 through Mantorville has been under way since April and MnDOT officials said last week that paving was being done and they would likely have more information on when the roadway could reopen to traffic in “the next week or so.”
“We will have a better sense of when traffic will be opened onto the new road in the week or so,” said MnDOT’s Mike Dougherty. “Crews have been waiting for Xcel Energy to remove poles downtown, so they can complete some of the concrete work.”
More work for striping, signing, landscaping, and other work needs to finish, he said.
The detour for through traffic around downtown Mantorville remains in effect.
Motorists will also be seeing MnDOT crews out on Hwy 56 in West Concord. Resurfacing the roadway from Southview Street to Dodge County Road 24 was scheduled to begin this week.
Prime contractor for the project is Rochester Sand & Gravel. Work is expected to be completed by late September, weather permitting.
A lane closure will occur during the project and a flagger or a pilot car will direct traffic. Work also includes accessibility and sidewalk improvements. Sidewalk closures in West Concord will occur where the crews are working.
