Since being founded, the Dodge County boys and girls hockey programs have been miscast at the high school level. Due to the seven schools (Kasson-Mantorville, Byron, Triton, Pine Island, Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Hayfield and Blooming Prairie) that comprise the Dodge County program, the sum of half the schools’ enrollment has pushed them over the Class A threshold.

The Triton track and field team opened their 2019 season by getting a head start on their competition as they headed to Winona for the Lewiston-Altura Early Bird Invitational on Mar. 25. The meet featured eight teams from Southeastern Minnesota as well as La Crosse Aquinas and La Crosse Logan and despite the field, the Cobras were able to stand out.

The Byron girls track and field team took it inside to open their season as they went all the way up to Menomonie, Wisc. To take part in the Northern Badger Invitational. The meet, which was held at the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Mar. 23, was the first meet for the Bears as they looked to set the bar high for the upcoming season.

Last year, the Kasson-Mantorville girls golf team saw great success out on the course. With Elizabeth Fagerlind advancing to the state tournament in her freshman year and sophomore (now junior) Ashley Johnson missing out on a playoff hole, the KoMets saw enough balance along with Molly Sorensen and Annabel Smith to advance to the second day of the Section 1AA Tournament  as a team.

Already a three-time state champion heading into his junior season — and two- time defending champion at 182 pounds — Kennedy has become a household name in high school wrestling circles. That attention extends beyond his hometown area as he was named the high school wrestler of the year by the Rochester Post-Bulletin.

One week ago, the Hayfield boys basketball team was on cloud nine. The Vikings were coming off an emotional high after getting a last-second win over Blooming Prairie thanks to a buzzer-beating  jump shot from Patrick Towey. That 50-48 victory would advance Hayfield to the Section 1A Semifinal, where they would come up with another tall task in top-seeded Spring Grove.
