Ruth Johnson, 71, of Mantorville, Minn., died of natural causes at her home on Monday, June 6, 2016.
Born January 8, 1945, in Austin, Minn., Ruth Norman married Douglas Johnson on December 2, 1967. Together they raised two daughters and forged a good life. Ruth worked for 30 years as a Health Unit Coordinator at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. 

On a Sunday morning after church, the people of Byron and the surrounding communities banded together to help raise more than $8,000 for the Whartons’ medical expenses after their son Lukas passed away on June 1. 
The women’s group at Christ the King Catholic Church in Byron, the Wharton’s parish, wanted to help the family in some way following the accident.

After months of seeking ways to increase student enrollment, the end came quietly last week as the West Concord Public Charter School board voted to close the doors at the end of the school year.
Board members voted 5-0 to close the school. Board member Naomi Froyum was not present at the meeting.

Throughout the season one of the strengths for the Triton track and field team has been its effort in the girls’ distance runs. Whether it is the 800, 1600 or 3200-meter runs, the combination of Nell Graham and Courtney West have dominated seemingly breaking school records every time they hit the track.

The Triton golf team had a taste of the state golf tournament a year ago when the boys qualified by winning the Section 1AA championship. The main goal for the Cobras this spring was to get back to that tournament and while Jaden Theimann qualified as an individual, they came up just short in their bid to return as a team after missing the cut on the first day.

With the end of the school year students can look forward to enjoying the days away from the classroom.
But for some youngsters that also means days lacking in nutritious food as they relied on breakfast and lunch served in school.
