Theimann earns fourth state tourney appearance

The Triton golf team had a taste of the state golf tournament a year ago when the boys qualified by winning the Section 1AA championship. The main goal for the Cobras this spring was to get back to that tournament and while Jaden Theimann qualified as an individual, they came up just short in their bid to return as a team after missing the cut on the first day.
“The section finals can be bittersweet as a coach,” Triton golf coach Joe Hansen explained. “You are pulling for all of your golfers to advance, but when you don’t go as a team, you rarely get more than one or two individuals.”
The Cobras finished fifth as a team on May 31 after shooting a 327. They wound up being 10 strokes off the cutline as the top four teams of Byron, Lake City, Red Wing and eventual section champion Rochester Lourdes advanced to the second day.
With that, there were tickets for individuals to be punched the next day and Theimann took advantage. After opening with a 73 on the first day, he struggled in his second round posting an 80. However, his score was good enough to lead all golfers and win the section individual title to advance to his fourth state tournament
“Jaden set himself up really well on Tuesday and had some room for error,” Hansen observed. “He put the finishing touches on a great career at Triton by qualifying. He’s finished in the top ten at state the past two years, so he has some lofty goals this year.”
