“Dinner with a Farmer”

Under the shade of trees on a pleasant spring evening, people sat, ate food and talked. But this picnic was different than the average picnic with its aim of educating the Dodge County community. 
The Dodge County Farm Bureau hosted “Dinner with a Farmer” Veterans Memorial Park in Kasson on June 16. In order to educate people about modern agricultural practices, the event gave the public an opportunity to speak with farmers. 

K-M trapshooters cherish state appearance

Five members of the Kasson-Mantorville trapshooting team competed at the Minnesota High School Championships this past weekend. The meet, which took place on June 17 in Alexandria, Minnesota, featured over 7,000 kids that qualified out of the 10,000 that participated in the sport this past season.

Huneke steps down as K-M activities director

Kasson-Mantorville activities director Kyle Huneke has tendered his resignation after three years on the job. Hueneke is leaving to take a position at Riverland Community College in Austin to become a Farm Business Management Instructor.
For Huneke, the position was an opportunity to go back to his roots dating back to growing up on a farm in Goodhue.

Farmers, school districts waiting for special session to approve tax credit

Dodge County farmers and school districts are waiting for a special legislative session that could finally see legislation granting a tax credit for school facility bonded debt become law.

Fall operating levy on agenda for Triton Board

Agreeing that this November’s general election is  “going to be a circus” the Triton administrators and Board members held a preliminary discussion last week of the operating levy for the district that will be on the fall ballot.
Most of the discussion at last week’s board work session concentrated on the 2016-2017 budget that was scheduled to be approved at Monday night’s board meeting.

Claremont Council wants more information before claiming forfeited property

Claremont City Council are in agreement that they want a Veterans’ Memorial in the city, they just are not sure how to go about getting it.
Members of the Claremont Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion Post are both interested in a Veterans Park and would like to see it in the vacant lots next to Legion Post.

School Board Chair Kent Harfmann called the Special School Board Work Session Meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Board members Angie Richards, Brea Koebele, Kent Harfmann, Brandon Madery, Missy Swarts, and Superintendent Matuska were present. Board members Rob Hamlin and Jill Minette were absent.
