Special Board Work Session Meeting Minutes
May 2, 2016
School Board Chair Kent Harfmann called the Special School Board Work Session Meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Board members Angie Richards, Brea Koebele, Kent Harfmann, Brandon Madery, Missy Swarts, and Superintendent Matuska were present. Board members Rob Hamlin and Jill Minette were absent.
Missy Swarts made a motion, seconded by Brea Koebele, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Brandon Madery, to approve the minutes of April 18, 2016, Regular School Board Meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
Brea Koebele made a motion, seconded by Angie Richards, to approve the land rental agreement for 2016 and 2017. The motion carried unanimously.
The board continued the Strategic Planning process and completed the new vision, mission, aims, and goals for the K-M School District.
The next Regular School Board Meeting has been scheduled for May 16, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Ed Multipurpose Room.
The next Special School Board Meeting has been scheduled for June 6, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the District Office Board Room 103.
Brea Koebele made a motion, seconded by Angie Richards, to adjourn the meeting at 7:48 p.m.

Meeting Minutes
May 16, 2016
School Board Chair Kent Harfmann called the Regular School Board meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Ed Multipurpose Room. Board members Rob Hamlin, Kent Harfmann, Brandon Madery, Jill Minette, Angie Richards, and Brea Koebele were present. Student Board Representative Stephanie Hamlin, Superintendent Mark D. Matuska, Business Manager Bob Hasz, Community Ed Director Jenny Carrier, Curriculum Instruction Assessment Director Kelly Braun, Grounds Maintenance Supervisor JJ Williams, Principals Trent Langemo, Michelle Krell, & Ariana Wright, and Activities Director Kyle Huneke were also present. Board Member Missy Swarts and Student Board Representative Jessica Kelley were absent.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Jill Minette, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
The Superintendent and building principals introduced their staff achieving tenure to be recognized with a KoMet Koin for their outstanding achievement and dedication to K-M Schools: Trent Langemo, Ariana Wright, Lisa Goihl, Courtney Lentz, and Jamie Skala.
School Board Chair Kent Harfmann introduced the presenters who in turn introduced the recipients for ‘KoMet Kommendations’ recognizing the following individuals with a KoMet Koin for their outstanding achievements and/or dedication to K-M Schools: Aidric Huso for completing 1000 books read before kindergarten; MaKenzie Johnson for runner up winner of Barnes & Noble contest; Emma Brookman, Taryn Orser, Andrea Richard, Claire Turner, and Hailey Ray for being Technovation Team state winners; Elizabeth Olmos for her exceptional outreach work to welcome new families to the district; Michelle Poncelet (coach), Zachary Alexander, Ethan Barnum, Anders Herfindahl-Quint, Adam Jennissen, and Jack Kujath on the State Academic Triathlon Team; Jakob Kujath, Yulya Rysavy, Lara Boyum, and Gretchen Johnson for achieving May Students of the Month; Ava Holtz, Taya Lindquist, Ella Holtz, Andrina Hasz, Kenna Thornburg, MaKayla Griffin, MarKayla Kujath, Mackenzie Noble-Henden, Alexa Brandt, Gabrielle Alvarado, Mackenzie Shay, and Lilly Braun who qualified for FCCLA Nationals; Carter Murry, Addison Luebbe, Stephanie Hamlin, Nathan Loy, Jora Gergen, Dani Pitzen, Mackenzie Churchward, Jakob Kujath, Andy Worden, Christy Schultz, and Erik Derby who qualified for HOSA Nationals; Jessica Schleck, West Concord PD Mike Erdman, Kasson PD Josh Hanson, Dodge Co SO Mark Dyshaw, and the SADD student members for their extra time and dedication to the program; Alex McElmury, Trenton Kruger, Aaron Vaith, and Jackson Serwa for competing nationally in Powerlifting; and Nicky Wilke, Amy Handevidt, Amy Myrom, Jennifer Flynn, Mary Kay Johnson, and Sally Smith for their exceptional work with the Breakthrough Coach Program and welcoming the principals new to their buildings this year.
Student School Board Representative Stephanie Hamlin was recognized for her service on the board this past year with a framed certificate.
Principal Langemo and National Honor Society Advisor Allison Sommer explained the transition of National Honor Society to Minnesota Honor Society for next year and thereafter.
Math Teacher Joel Swanson presented the blended learning he is doing with his students through the ALEKS computer program after receiving an innovation grant earlier this year.
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) presented their activities for the year, including fall conference, a blood drive, and spring conference.
Angie Richards introduced Resolution for Acceptance of Gifts to ISD 204 and moved its adoption for a total value of $10,548.53. The motion for adoption was duly seconded by Brandon Madery, and the motion carried unanimously.
Board committee chairs provided updates for those committees that met since the last board meeting.
The Administrative Team answered questions from the School Board members referencing the administrative board reports.
Jill Minette made a motion, seconded by Angie Richards, to approve the consent agenda, which included the board bills, May 2, 2016, Special School Board Meeting Minutes, enrollment, and the following personnel items. The motion carried unanimously.

Rob Hamlin made a motion, seconded by Brandon Madery, to approve revisions to the following School Board Policies: 407 Employee Right to Know - Exposure to Hazardous Substances, 409 Employee Publications, Instructional Materials, Inventions, and Creations, 503.4KM Homeless Students, 505 Distribution of Nonschool-sponsored Materials on School Premises by Students and Employees, 533 Wellness, 609 Religion, 610 Field Trips, 611 Home Schooling, and 611.1KM Diploma Eligibility. The motion carried unanimously.
Rob Hamlin made a motion, seconded by Brandon Madery, to adopt Resolution Placing Cassandra Buck on Unrequested Leave of Absence. The motion carried unanimously.
Brandon Madery made a motion, seconded by Angie Richards, to adopt amended Resolution Proposing to Place Joshua Mitchell on Unrequested Leave of Absence. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Brea Koebele, to approve the Fitness Center equipment bid. The motion carried unanimously.
Rob Hamlin made a motion, seconded by Brea Koebele, to approve the Agreement to Waive Continuing Education Rights of Clark Johnson for the 16-17 school year. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Rob Hamlin, to approve the 2016-2017 Salary and Contract Days for Special Education Coordinator Darcey Reker. The motion carried unanimously.
Brea Koebele made a motion, seconded by Jill Minette, to approve Activities Director contract for school years 15-16, 16-17, and 17-18. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Rob Hamlin, to approve Community Education Director contract for school years 15-16, 16-17, and 17-18. The motion carried unanimously.
Rob Hamlin made a motion, seconded by Brandon Madery, to adopt Resolution for Membership in the MSHSL. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Rob Hamlin, to approve the final draft of the new K-M School District Vision, Mission, and Goals. The motion carried unanimously.
The first reading for revisions to the following School Board Policies was conducted: 101 Legal Status of the School District, 202 School Board Officers, 208 Development, Adoption, and Implementation of Policies, 211 Criminal or Civil Action Against School District, School Board Member, Employee, or Student, 416 Drug and Alcohol Testing, 418 Drug-Free Workplace/Drug-Free School, 420 Students and Employees with Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Infectious Conditions, 614 School District Testing Plan and Procedure, 618 Assessment of Student Achievement, 620 Credit for Learning, and 807 Health and Safety.
Jill Minette made a motion, seconded by Brea Koebele, to approve school board policy 506 Student Discipline with revisions to the following handbooks: 16-17 Kindergarten Handbook, 16-17 ES Student Handbook, 16-17 ES Faculty Handbook, 16-17 MS Student Handbook, 16-17 MS Staff Handbook, 16-17 HS Student Handbook, and 16-17 HS Faculty Handbook. The motion carried unanimously.
The next Special School Board Work Session Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, June 6, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the District Office Board Room 103.
The next regular School Board meeting has been scheduled for Monday, June 13, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Ed Multipurpose Room.

Special Board Work Session Meeting Minutes
May 24, 2016
School Board Chair Kent Harfmann called the Special School Board Work Session Meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. Board members Angie Richards, Brea Koebele, Kent Harfmann, Rob Hamlin, Jill Minette, and Superintendent Matuska were present. Board members Brandon Madery and Missy Swarts were absent.
Jill Minette made a motion, seconded by Rob Hamlin, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Angie Richards made a motion, seconded by Rob Hamlin, to ratify the 15/16-16/17 Master Agreement for K-M Certified Staff. During mediation on May 12, 2016, a compromise was reached on the total package at 7.26% from the 7.07% last offered by the board, contract days for teachers was reduced from 187 to 186, and the May 15 deadline for taking personal days was eliminated. Instead, no personal days shall be granted (without Superintendent permission) during the last four work days of the school calendar year. The motion carried unanimously.
The next Special School Board Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, June 6, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the District Office Board Room 103.
