Lively conversations took place at the Claremont Service Center June 6 as people with an interest in local history came together and exchanged memories.
The event was organized by the Dodge County Historical Society. The Society’s board of directors are reaching out to people in all parts of the county to collect stories and information about what happened in our past.
A few of the discussion topics were:

The Comb Over has shifted from a mobile unit to a brick-and-mortar men’s hair salon.
They opened at 957 Frontage Road Northwest in Byron on June 1 and traffic there has been steady since, said owner Erin Mikkalson.
“It’s been good,” she said. “It’s been very busy.”

The Dodge Center Council selected a new hauler company last month, after the city council approved an amendment to its ordinance to increase the number of garbage licenses from two to three.
Since Hometown Haulers recently merged with Waste Management it meant the number of licenses in Dodge Center dropped down to two. In order to have three providers again the ordnance had to be amended.

Three Dodge County organizations have received grants from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council. A total of 59 areas in the southeast Minnesota area were recipients of grants announced on May 21.
The awards included 35 Legacy grants for $276,250; 13 Programming grants for $61,450; ten Small Towns/Rural Areas grants for $48,930, and one $500 Opportunity Grant.

The big equipment operators were on the job in Mantorville last week as work continues on storm sewer and road reconstruction on Highway 57 through downtown. Detours around the project have been in place since mid-April.
 
 

For decades, the Dodge Center Ambulance, the ambulance provider for Claremont, Dodge Center, Kasson, Mantorville, and Townships in Dodge County have survived off of small financial contributions from Dodge Center and Kasson, voluntary donations from other communities, and the reimbursement from insurance when going on calls.
