Another year has come and gone and while 2016 was one of the strangest years on record, it actually treated the readership area of the DCI well. In total, there were a pair of state tournament appearances along with a state championship from the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team.

Over the past couple seasons, Kasson-Mantorville girls basketball senior Kristin Scott has had a couple numbers on her mind. She would love to help lead the KoMets to their first state championship and earn their third straight HVL championship. However, on December 22, Scott had another number on her mind: 1,769.

The Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team has been dominant wherever they’ve competed over the past couple of seasons and as they jumped into their first HVL triangular of the season, they showed that they are still the kings of the conference with victories over Triton and Byron on December 20.

As head coach Tyler Johnson took over the Cobra wrestling program, he let his team know that he had lofty goals for each of them coming into the season. In the Cobras’ wrestling room, there are banners that list a pair of state place-winners and a banner that is left blank as motivation for one of his wrestlers to make their mark in Triton history.

The Kasson-Mantorville boys basketball team is searching for a way to find consistency during the early part of the season. While they’ve been able to show signs of being a team that could put it together and pick up some victories, they haven’t been able to find a way to maintain that level of play for 36 minutes.

The Triton wrestling team headed out to take place in the St. Clair Quad last Thursday night and while the team only picked up one victory, a 47-30 victory over St. Clair/Mankato Loyola, there were several individual performances that were encouraging as the team heads into its first HVL triangular this week.
