All right, who's in charge of the weather around here? A few weeks ago we have moderate, nearly spring-like weather, and now that it is spring, there’s little proof that spring has really arrived.

Dodge County’s only surviving team in the Minnesota State High School League basketball tournament is the Hayfield Vikings boys’ team. They are survivors. They are also CHAMPIONS, again. They conquered a back-and-forth slugfest with Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 51-49. (Think about that—it took three schools to even come close to beating the Vikes.)
They were welcomed home by community fans.

It’s basketball playoff time and the Hayfield Vikings are fighting for the top spot in girls and boys A competition at Williams Arena (a.k.a. the Barn). Hayfield’s teams are the only Dodge County and Byron High School remain in contention for a state title.
Last Thursday night I watched as the Hayfield boys took on Goodhue for the Section 1A championship at Mayo Arena.

It’s been a lot of years since the days of black & white photography. It’s been even longer since my first shooting of the Cloquet Lumberjacks and the Hibbing Blue Jackets. It was Cloquet’s shot to move on to the state tournament.

Just a week from today is St. Patrick’s Day. There are a lot of stories about St. Patrick and some of them are true.
However, there will be a St. Paddy’s Day this Saturday as part of the Kasson Downtown Task Force. From 3 to 7 p.m. businesses on Main Street will be open and celebrating St. Paddy’s Day—not to be confused with St. Patrick’s Day.

Winter is almost over. Yes, I understand that March is one of the snowiest months in Minnesota but look at the facts: there are only 17 days remaining until spring begins. (And there are only 10 days until Daylight Saving Time rolls our way.) Winter sports are winding down. Hockey, both boys and girls, is over. Our Wildcats fell last Thursday to Lakeville South and the girls were done a week earlier.
