Tiger is back at the Master’s in Augusta

Tiger’s back! Last week’s Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta, Georgia took center stage.
And Tiger Woods took the spotlight among the field of golfers on hand to kick of the highest stage in golf.
Just over a year after his near fatal car accident and screwing his right leg back together, the G.O.A.T. was walking the hilly coarse of Augusta. He completed the first round at -1, only four shots of the lead.
Tiger’s return eclipsed the leader Sungjae Im, a South Korean who would have been receiving all of the accolades in a normal year, but when the legendary Woods was resurrected from his near-death experience, the entire golf world was not interested in who sat atop the leader board after day one.
For that matter, no one cared about Dustin Johnson, who was in second just one stroke behind Im after the first day on the prestigious course. Rory McElroy was in the mix as well, but he was an also ran last week.
So why was there all the fuss about Tiger’s return? Well, he was vying for his sixth green jacket in hopes of tying Jack “Golden Bear” Nicholas who was the only other golfer to climb to the stratospheric level of golf that Woods was aspiring to in 2022.
Even the Today Show on Friday was giddy with excitement about the return to golf after his tragic car accident on February 23, 2021.
He had been driving a Genesis SUV at a high rate of speed when the vehicle launched over a curb and smashed into a tree. The SUV flipped and trapped him inside.
Fans recalled the early reports that speculated if he would ever walk again, and whether he’d every return to golf.
Early reports indicated that the great one might lose his severely injured right leg. There was a collective sigh of relief for all sports fans, but especially Tiger’s followers, when that didn’t happen.
While golf may not be on everyone’s favorite sport list, even the most uninformed among sports fans in general, were surprised when that huge smile once again lit up the golf course at Augusta.
Who knows, maybe Tiger wannabe’s will be able to hit the course in our neck-of-the-woods soon.
Tiger finished 47th in the field. Scottie Scheffler was the winner of the Masters.
One last thing: Major League Baseball’s opening day was last Thursday. It was delayed a day for our Minnesota Twins due to winter’s rude interference.
