As parents who live in the Kasson-Mantorville School District, we should have a say in the curriculum that is being taught to our children. I believe it is every parent’s right to know and they should be allowed to ask questions about what is being taught at K-M. That alone makes this School Board election critical to all of us.

We are writing this to express our continued support of the K-M School Board and for their support of giving parents a say in their own child’s education and safety. Two school board members who are running again this year supported our K-M parents during the recent pandemic by making masks optional for our children and we want to thank them for their support of kids and our families.

The Electoral College is one big mistake in the Constitution. It makes the USA a Republic in presidential voting and susceptible to corruption – the president is selected by “electors” from each state and allows for elections of presidents who didn’t win the popular vote, which has happened 5 times in US history. And each was for the corrupted worse.

Election Day is fast approaching. Voting is a right, but it is also a responsibility. Good government requires citizens who know the issues and have thoughtfully made decisions on who to vote for.
To help voters make those decisions the Dodge County Independent is publishing a Voters’ Guide in this issue. Residents have also been eager to share their opinions on who to vote for through Letters to the Editor.

That is the nickname that was given to eight retired Byron teachers that meet once a week at Otto’s bakery in Byron. Since the last of the eight retired in 2009, they have gotten together for an hour to keep alive rather unlikely friendships.
