Labor Day weekend always seems like a dividing point. The summer season ends and fall begins.
What also marks the end of summer is the Minnesota State Fair. In addition to enjoying the all the fair activities there are many area students who become even more involved by showing their animals or other projects through their participation in 4-H and FFA programs.

A new school year has begun. Students in Byron returned to classes last week and students in Kasson-Mantorville, Hayfield, and Triton are heading back this week for what everyone hopes will be a normal school year following two-plus years of COVID disruptions.

Of all the vegetables, the potato is probably considered the most common. It isn’t flashy or exotic, yet it is a staple of most diets. While meat and potatoes are thought of as American as apple pie, its history may tell a different story.  

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

As I drive into Kasson multiple times a day, I’m impressed by the planning that went into the road construction. Sure, it is a hassle taking all the detours, but I have no trouble getting to where I want to go. Other area communities have had greater problems in previous years when they had to deal with multiple detours through their towns.

It seems hard to believe that summer is coming to an end but with the State Fair and the start of school that fact is inevitable.
Students in Byron already started their school year this week with the other districts sticking with the more traditional after Labor Day start.
