Mantorville sets levy at three percent

At their last scheduled meeting for the year Monday night, the Mantorville city council members unanimously approved a three per cent increase to the city property tax levy for 2017. Council members also learned the estimated market value of property in the city increased by 6.15 per cent. 
The final budget levy is $440,118. The group also approved the water and sewer budgets for 2017.

Newspapers are the greatest source for news

An interesting cartoon came across my desk this week that not only gave me a chuckle, but it really hit it on the head in describing the plight of America’s newspapers, including your very own Dodge County Independent (DCI).  It’s a battle newspaper journalists face every day.

MANTORVILLE TOWNSHIP SNOW REMOVAL POLICY

PURPOSE: To give the citizens of Mantorville Township a realistic expectation of the snow and ice removal services that will be provided during the winter season. This policy is based on a similar policy developed by the Dodge County Highway Department.

Blossoms down Tigers

Fifty percent shooting from the field and an edge in rebounding gave the Blossom boys a 77-58 win over Medford Friday, Dec.  9 in Medford.  The victory gave the locals a split for the week and a 2-2 record for the young season.

Ellendale talks emergencies

Emergency response was the theme for the Ellendale city council meeting on Dec. 8.
Jerry Ibberson was appointed as Ellendale’s local emergency management director. Ibberson has worked with the disaster warning service Skywarn in the past. He accepted the position but had questions about the council’s expectations.
