Gutsy performances guide Huskies to fifth place finish at State

After Griffin Thorn a 6-4 decision to Andrew Reigstad of Willmar, the weight of the dual rested on the shoulders of senior heavyweight Goy Tut- a tough task when facing the No. 2 ranked Brady Reigstad.
Despite the odds, he delivered.

Ross and Jan Mickelsen moved to Kasson in January last year to be closer to their daughter who is ill. Ross retired from the U.S. Post Office and also worked as a cameraman at a TV station and as a driver for a van to transport disabled people to appointments.
 

Teen suicide inspires woman’s crusade for mental health awareness

As manager of a local fitness club, Ashley Applen had only met a teenager who used the gym on the night before he committed suicide. But the tragedy has inspired her to lead a crusade to spread awareness of mental health issues. 
“He played with my son and was very well known for interacting with young kids,” Applen said of Wyatt Coy, a Kasson-Mantorville senior who took his life Jan. 19. “He was a great role model.”

KoMets send 10 to state

One year ago, the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team put an exclamation point on the dominant season they were having on its way to the program’s second state championship. With nine wrestlers qualifying for the state tournament, it showed the top-level talent that the school has produced in order to become one of the best teams in the state.

Area students compete in creative writing contest

Several Triton students received Honorable Mention in the 24th-annual Zumbro Education District’s Creative Writing Contest.
The contest is for students in grades 5-12. This year’s theme: “The Day I Met …”
The students chose how to interpret the prompt, and let their creativity take them away in the form of poetry or prose.
