The KoMets scored the first touchdown of the game, but after that it was all Mankato East as they scored 27 unanswered points to hand Kasson-Mantorville a 27-7 loss on Friday, Aug. 30.
However, the game was much closer than it seems.
Head Coach Broc Threinen said K-M had a good first possession until a turnover halted their momentum.
“We put a nice drive together on the first possession but fumbled the snap,” he said. 

The Kasson-Mantorville volleyball team kept their momentum from last year’s state tournament run going as they beat Rochester Century 3-0 on Tuesday, Aug. 27. 
Head Coach Adam VanOort said his team’s success came from its serving and passing prowess. 
 “I thought we served and passed pretty well,” he said. 

Jerome “Jerry” Joseph Kubista, 93, of Owatonna, died
Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Whispering Oak Assisted Living in Ellendale.
He was born Feb. 11, 1926 in Owatonna, the son of Wal- ter and Agnes (Skalicky) Kubista. Jerome graduated from Owatonna High School. He attended Mankato Vocational School for two years and Boiler Engineering School in Owatonna for six months.

Part of my enjoyment with
the Minnesota State Fair is to go work at the fair doing, what else, newspaper work.
Besides doing stories and taking photos of local people at the fair, I also volunteer at the Minnesota Newspaper Museum, which is operated by the Minneso- ta Newspaper Foundation of which I serve on the board.

A rural Kasson woman has died in a single-vehicle crash in Dodge County.Sheriff Scott Rose identified the victim of the Labor Day crash as Lorie Alwes, 59.The crash near the intersection of County Road 15 and 265 th Avenue was reported tothe sheriff’s office at about 4:10 p.m. Monday.

Peter “Pete” Otto Peterson, 74, of Mantorville, passed away surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019.Pete was born on Sept. 4, 1944 to Otto and Novia (Larson) Peterson in Fairmont, Minn.  He graduated from Trimont High School in 1962 and then attended Gustavus Adolphus College, earning a B.S.

The funeral service for Carol A.  Meyer, 85, of Byron, was held on Saturday Aug.  24, 2019 at South Zumbro Lutheran Church in rural Kasson. Mrs. Meyer died on Monday Aug. 19, 2019 of natural causes at Madonna Towers Skilled Care in Rochester,Minn. where she had been a resident since March.
