Helga M. Grant, 78, Austin

Helga M. Grant, age 78 of Austin, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Mary’s Campus.
Helga Maria Stroebele was born July 11, 1941, in Wilhelmskirch, Germany, the daughter of Erwin and Berta (Strasser) Stroebele. She grew up and attended school in Germany. Helga was trained as a seamstress and worked in factories while in Germany.

Allan Joseph Hames, 85, of Kasson, passed away at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield surrounded by his family on Saturday Aug. 10, 2019.  Allan was born on Sept. 16, 1933 to Joseph and Dora (Sueverkruepp) Hames in Altamont, SD.

When papers close, cost of government goes up

It’s with great sadness that I noticed yet another Minnesota newspaper has ceased publication within the past couple weeks. This is at least the second newspaper in the state to shut down this year. 

Alex Nuehring named new DCI Sports Editor

The DCI has a new Sport Editor as Alex Neuhring began in his new role on Monday.
Nuehring is replacing Chris Schad, who left the paper at the end of the spring sports season.
Although this will be his first time working for the DCI full-time the Rochester native has knowledge after interning in the summer of 2017.

Jennifer Galloway joins KMtelecom team

KMTelecom has a new  Business Solutions Representative, as Jennifer Golloway recently joined the team. 
Galloway came to Kasson via Texas, after her husband accepted a job in Rochester.
“I moved to Kasson in December 2018 from Wichita Falls Texas as my husband was offered a position as the Digital Managing Editor in Rochester for Townsquare Media starting Jan.1,” she said. 

Kasson council recognizes top readers

Kasson City Council members recognized the top readers in the library’s summer reading program at last week’s council meeting.
Andrew Holz was the summer’s top reader among all those 11 and under with 182 hours. Arabella Egelston was second with 149 hours and Audra Lohrback was close behind with 141 hours.
