Woman killed in crash near Mantorville
A rural Kasson woman has died in a single-vehicle crash in Dodge County.Sheriff Scott Rose identified the victim of the Labor Day crash as Lorie Alwes, 59.The crash near the intersection of County Road 15 and 265 th Avenue was reported tothe sheriff’s office at about 4:10 p.m. Monday. Alwes was dead at the scene.According to Rose, Alwes was scheduled to be at work early in the morning atCasey’s in Mantorville and had not been seen or heard from all day. Her son, MattAlwes of Kasson, had gone out to look for his mother along her normal route towork and came upon the crash, Rose said.Rose said Alwes was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla that had traveled westbounddown the hillside striking several trees before coming to a stop down in the ravine.“There was no indication on scene as to what caused the crash,” the sheriff said.Dean’s Towing from Rochester responded to assist removing the vehicle from theravine.Mantorville Fire assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene.This was the second fatality within the past month in Dodge County. In August, anelderly man was killed while riding his bicycle in Mantorville.
