Lorie Lynn Alwes (Jensen), 59, of Kasson died in a motor vehicle accident Monday, Sept. 2, on her way to work in Mantorville.

After a tough loss last week, the Triton football team bounced back by winning their home opener 21-12 over Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Friday, Sept. 6. 
Head Coach Mike Ellingson said the difference between winning and losing was getting some clutch plays. 
“We made plays when we needed them. Not our best output but finding a way to win close games is necessary for good teams,” he said. 

The Kasson-Mantorville football team started strong and finished strong as they routed Rochester John Marshall 48-14 on Friday, Sept. 6. 
Interim head coach Joel Swanson said each unit of the team played well.
“We had great field position. Our defense forced three and outs and the offense cashed in on drives. On special teams, our kick-off unit pinned them inside of the 25 throughout the night.

After starting the season with a win, the Vikings ran into a buzzsaw when they lost 39-19 to the Randolph Rockets on Friday, Sept. 6. 
Head Coach Jeff Snider said Randolph deserves credit for pouncing on Hayfield’s mistakes. 
“Randolph did a good job of taking advantage of some pass coverages that we used and some of our missed assignments with those pass coverages,” he said. 

Both Byron football team and Plainview-Elgin-Millville (P-E-M) came into last Friday’s game with some extra motivation to win, but only one team could prevail. 
In the end, the Bears eked out a 27-26 victory by scoring a 70-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the game. 
P-E-M was hoping to win for their teammate Aiden Miller who died suddenly of heart failure in late July. He would have been a junior lineman this season. 

Renee Berg got her journalism start at her college newspaper in Mankato, Minn., telling her editor-in-chief there that she wanted to write stories but was too shy to talk to people. He laughed and laughed and assigned her to go interview a college administrator.
Now today, Berg counts interviewing people as one of the best parts of her job. She took over as Dodge County Independent News Editor last week.

From 1869 until 1920 when the original limestone school building was replaced by a more modern one, the school bell had called the students to classes. 
The 1921 building was used continuously by the Kasson-Mantorville School District until the current middle school was built. The building has now been remodeled as the Dodge County Government Center. The actual site of the original school is now the Government Center parking lot.

When William and Marylee Lambert moved into their historic home in Mantorville around Thanksgiving in 1983, they had no idea what was in store for them.
The Mantorville Restoration Association reached out and invited them to dinner shortly after they moved in. By January, William was calling bingo at the Mantorville Opera House. They have since embraced themselves into the fabric of the community by volunteering in many ways.

It may have been the busiest day of the year for Casey’s in Mantorville with Marigold Days in full swing, but that didn’t stop the store managers and employees from remembering one of their own who died suddenly earlier in the week.
Lorie Alwes, 59, of rural Kasson was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Labor Day as she made her way to the store in the early morning hours to do what she loved to do most—make donuts.
