Over the course of my career I’ve covered a number of significant events, mostly news stories.
I’ve covered the President being sworn in, have covered people being sentenced, broken news about murders taking place in town, to name a few things.
But last week, I had the opportunity to do something I never thought I would; I covered the Dodge County Wildcats as the team won its first ever state championship.

Kristy Faber, long-time Triton Community Education Director, is Dodge Center’s Citizen of the Year. The award was presented by the Dodge Center Chamber of Commerce and announced at the February meeting of the group.
“It’s very sweet, it’s very nice,” Faber said of the award.

Byron residents got a first look at the budget reductions facing the district as school administrators presented their recommendations to the school board Tuesday night. School administrators were directed to look at ways to cut $1.6 million from the 2025-2026 budget to correct a budget shortfall. Earlier district officials cut a similar amount from the current year’s budget.

State Rep. Duane Quam, R-Byron, showed up to the Capitol on January 14, was sworn in, and when called on, voted for Lisa Demuth, a Republican from the Iron Range, to be the next Speaker of the House.
There were no DFL lawmakers in attendance, who were boycotting the session, until a power sharing agreement could be reached between both parties.

The Mantorville Art Guild will be hosting a reception in honor of retiring Guild founding member Theresa Hoaglund this Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m.
To say that the Mantorville Art Guild exists because of Theresa Hoaglund is putting it mildly, fellow Art Guild members say. She has put her heart and soul into the Art Guild for the past 25 plus years.

It was another successful year for the KoMets vs. Cancer fundraising event. This year’s activities raised $9,500, according to Michele Lindquist, advisor to the Kasson-Mantorville FCCLA Club, which helps organize the event.
