The Minnesota Department of Commerce has officially announced its Scoping Decision regarding the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Dodge County Wind Project proposed for Steele, Dodge and Olmsted Counties. The project is being proposed by Dodge County Wind, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Next Era Energy Resources.

More than 3,900 FFA members from around the state attended the 90th Minnesota FFA state convention the last three days of April. The event was held at both the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses with Dodge County and Byron chapters well represented.
More than 350 Minnesota FFA members received their State FFA Degree, and members also competed in a variety of leadership development events and proficiency areas.

Harriet Regina Jirousek, 102, of Owatonna, died Friday, May 3, 2019 at her home in Park Place Assisted Living.

Dona M. Jacobson, age 90 of Austin, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.
Dona Mae Snell was born on Oct. 13, 1928 in Austin, the daughter of Geo and Esther (Johnson) Snell. She grew up in the Austin area and graduated from Austin High School in 1947.

It’s no secret that young people like me don’t read newspapers in print form as much as our parents or grandparents did growing up.
But to say that young people don’t care about newspapers at all is completely incorrect.
I’m around young people a lot and one day recently I arrived to track practice and saw a bunch of athletes surrounded around a copy of the DCI, with one of my fellow assistant coaches.

On Oct. 12 Jose Alberto Hernandez-Bautista was charged with a First Degree Drug Possession charge after about five pounds of meth was found during a traffic stop in Dodge County.

The Kasson-Mantorville softball team had a great week at the plate, which led them to a pair of Hiawatha Valley League victories over Goodhue and Pine Island. Although they came up short against a strong Lourdes team to complete the three- game sweep, their offense left enough optimism that K-M can slug it out with any team in the opposing dugout.

If there was a week to be proud of what the Triton track and field program has accomplished, last week would have been a great example.
The Cobras were solid as a team and even as the boys won the team title at the Hayfield Viking Invitational, one of their own was competing with the state’s best and winning the 400 meter title.

It was party time in West Concord last Saturday night as nearly 150 residents and former residents gathered
to celebrate “A Night at the Museum.”
The event was to recognize the 25th anniversary of the West Concord Historical Museum located in the old West Concord school.
Tours of the museum were given during the afternoon followed by a social hour, dinner, entertainment  and a silent auction.
