A local senate district has flipped to GOP after Gene Dornink of Hayfield unseated veteran DFL Senator Dan Sparks of Austin.
In the Minnesota District 27 race, Dornink appears to have cruised to an easy victory gaining 14,617 votes or 53% compared to 11,015 or 40% for Sparks in Tuesday’s general election.
The race was hotly contested by both parties.

Alvin Elmer Gross, 83, of Kasson, formerly of Dodge Center, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at Prairie Meadows Senior Living in Kasson.
Alvin was born on June 19, 1937, the son of John and Alice (Harmon) Gross in Algona, Iowa. He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1955. He was united in marriage on Jan. 18, 1958 to Dorothy Klossner in Kasson.

Mavis Marie Weaver, 90, of Kasson, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Methodist Campus in Rochester.
Mavis was born on June 12, 1930 to Melvin and Opal (Espey) Lien in Vernon Township in Dodge County. She married Ernest Weaver on Nov. 2, 1947.
They lived on a farm north of Rochester for a few years. They lived most of their life in the Byron and Kasson area. 

Ruth Carol (Ketchum) Ragan, 92, of Albert Lea, passed away on October 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. A Memorial Service will be held at the Assembly of God Church 1540 S. Shore Dr. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14 with Rev. Ryan Quigley presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Cheryl (White) Frarck grew up in North St. Paul with one younger brother. They walked about three-quarters of a mile to their elementary school but were only about a block away from the North St. Paul High School.
