KM wrestling season comes to abrupt end

Kasson-Mantorville’s KoMets entered the Section tournament as the #2 ranked team in the state for Class AA, just behind national powerhouse, Simley. The KoMets had their team season come to an abrupt halt last Wednesday night when they fell to unranked Lake City in the Section 1AA semi-finals, 40-32.

The boys team was in action at the Graham Arena in Rochester on Thursday, March 11, as they beat Rochester Century by a 4-2 score.

Dodge County Environmental Services Director Mark Gamm grew up in Park Rapids, about 3-1/2 hours from Minneapolis.

‘Truck to Trunk’ food distribution tomorrow at Fairgrounds

Semcac, Channel One Regional Food Bank and USDA Farmers to Families Food Box are sponsoring a Truck to Trunk Pop-up food distribution event on Friday, March 19, at the Dodge County Fairgrounds.
The event will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Upcoming MnDOT projects planned for Kasson, Mantorville, Byron

The completion of the 12.5-mile stretch of Highway 14 between Owatonna and Dodge Center is not the only road project that will be affecting the area in coming years.
Delayed by a year because of the pandemic, reconstruction of Highway 57 in Kasson is scheduled to begin in 2022. The work will continue in Mantorville in 2023. Work on Hwy 14 from Byron to Rochester is also scheduled for 2022.

I’m glad the move is over

No one likes moving! I have moved five other newspapers to different buildings in four different states. This move from Main Street to the old Shopko building nearly killed me.
Every piece of equipment: desks, computer, printers, shelving, copiers and every gadget needed to publish a newspaper had to be moved.

Lyle ‘Slats’ Papenfuss, 78, Chatfield

Lyle “Slats” Papenfuss, age 78, passed away on March 2, 2021 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. 
He was born on Dec. 28, 1942 to Howard and Winnie (Greenwood) Papenfuss of LaCrescent.  Slats attended LaCrosse Central High School where he was named to the AP All-State Basketball First Team in 1960. He was also selected to go to Boys State in Minnesota.

Kasson wrestlers wrap up regular season, head to sections

Last Thursday night the KoMets wrapped up their regular season and also celebrated the Class of 2021with Senior Night. Seniors include Jackson Kennedy, Giovonni Ruffo, Dylan Baker and cheerleader Mazy Gilbertson.
