We’ve all heard about people adopting pets, but what about taking a liking to something that will have a direct impact on the environment.
With Earth Day taking place a few weeks ago, many people have a renewed focus on the environment. One-way folks can get themselves involved in saving the environment is getting a little dirty and picking up trash. I know it doesn’t sound very glamourous, but it’s needed to keep our earth clean.

Honoring military personnel, veterans

This month we embrace National Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor and express gratitude to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as their families.
This month-long observance, established by Congress in 1999, encompasses several significant events:​
Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 10)
Armed Forces Day (May 17)
Memorial Day (May 26)

Lawmakers sound alarm over nursing home cuts

Local lawmakers are sounding the alarm over nursing home cuts expected to be made as part of the Senate Human Services budget passed last week. 
In Dodge County, Fairview Care Center is expected to lose $484,634 over the course of four years, while Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield is expected to lose out on $823,381 in revenue over the same time period.

Triton senior celebrates education career choice

Future Family and Consumer science teacher Macy Klejeski celebrated her career choice last week at Educator Signing Day on May 6 at the Triton High School PAC. She will be studying family and consumer science education at Minnesota State University Mankato. 
Triton Superintendent Craig Schlichting started the ceremony off. He spoke about advice he received from veteran educators when he first decided to go into education.

Fundraising under way for wheelchair accessible swing

An initiative led by Kasson-Mantorville Special Education teacher Sara Bailey and Kasson Public Works supervisor Ben Langan is raising money for a wheelchair accessible swing to be installed at Veteran’s Memorial Park. 
The initiative between the City of Kasson Park Board, local families, and businesses will ensure that everyone, regardless of mobility, can enjoy the playground to its fullest potential.
