Finding a passion for pickleball

For the past few years, I’ve covered a number of folks who have been passionate pickleball players.
I had one source in particular, at my last newspaper, who anytime I tried to get a hold of him, if he didn’t answer, there was a good chance he was going to call me back and tell me he was playing a game of pickleball.

‘Music in Mantorville’ every Tuesday at Riverside Park

There is something new in Mantorville this year as “Music in Mantorville” will be featured every Tuesday evening through August 26.
The weekly event will feature a changing lineup of area performers from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the new bandshell at Riverside Park.
There is also more than music as the evening activities will include a farmers’ market, Yoga in the Park and food vendors.

Dodger Days returns June 12–15

Dodge Center’s annual Dodger Days celebration returns June 12–15, 2025, with four days of family-friendly activities and entertainment.

Triton principal sleeps on roof for fundraiser

Triton Elementary Principal Shane Van Beek spent the night under the stars on the school’s roof on May 29 as a fundraising incentive. Students chose incentives for a fundraising program for the school’s media center and STEM materials. Beginning in February, students and their families raised over $16,000 with the help of Boosterthon, an online platform that helps schools in their fundraising efforts.

Remembering Gerry Fahning

Gerry Fahning, a long-term Dodge Center Business owner, passed away this past weekend, according to his daughter, Beth Hanggi.

Carol Joan Tjosaas, 88, Kasson

Carol Joan Tjosaas of Kasson, 88, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Fairview Care Center.
Carol was born on September 24, 1936, in Clarkfield, MN to Julius and Clara (Gautefall) Berre. She was confirmed and married by Rev. A.N. Olson at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. On January 9, 1955, her maternal grandmother’s birthday, she married Lyle Tjosaas from Benson. Seven children were born to the union. Lyle died in 2013.

Mark Allen Weatherly, 73, Kasson

Mark Allen Weatherly, 73, of Kasson, MN passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park. Mark was born on March 29, 1952, in Rochester to Clifford and Joyce (Mastenbrook) Weatherly. He attended and graduated from Mayo High School in 1972. Following graduation, he enlisted and served in the US Navy and was discharged in 1976. He worked various construction jobs most of his life.
