A runaway Texas Longhorn cow provided some excitement in Dodge County Sunday afternoon. 
Sheriff Scott Rose said that at about 2 p.m. the 911 Dispatch Center received a call from Brandon Schmoll on County Road 34 just east of Dodge Center that one of his Texas Longhorn cows had gotten out while they were trying to transfer her into the pasture and they were requesting assistance in getting it back into the pasture. 

Robert Allen McAdams, age 85, of Mantorville, Minnesota, passed away on August 25, 2025, of natural causes. Bob was born at home in Mantorville to Francis and Adelaide (Green) McAdams on August 23,1940.  After graduating from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1958 he served in the Army.  In 1962, following his military service, he was united in marriage to Karen Lee Growden.  They had 3 sons.

Growing up in a state approximately the same size as any county in Minnesota, but with over a million people in it, my parents always instilled in me to be careful what you say in public.
Those who regularly read my column know I didn’t grow up in a small town, but as in small communities, it wasn’t uncommon to run into people I knew at the market or elsewhere growing up.

The Dodge County Relay for Life — Dodge County Stroll — raised money for the American Cancer Society for 33 years in Dodge County. Altogether, the group of volunteers raised $3,477,500.
The organization often ranked as one of the top counties in the nation to raise funds per capita.

DFL supporters gathered Aug. 14 at Veterans Memorial Park in Kasson to hear from candidates, play trivia, and share a meal during the Senate District 24 picnic, hosted jointly by the Olmsted and Dodge County DFL.

It was a little over a year ago that Matt Durand of Owatonna, owner of Arden Home Services, began constructing affordable housing in Claremont.

With little discussion, the Byron School Board agreed with a recommendation from Superintendent Nate Walbruch to close open enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year for all grade levels except second and third grade.
“Most of these grade levels are over the 180-student mark, or the teacher-to-student ratio is over the board-targeted size,” Walburch wrote in a memo.
