Dennis Murphy, 74, Fairmont

Dennis Murphy, 74, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at his home in Fairmont, Minn. His family will be saying a final good-bye to him on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Cemetery off Highway 57 (between Kasson and Mantorville). Following the service, red and white balloons with messages and memories attached will be released.

James William Heley, 84, Overland Park, Kansas

James William Heley passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016. 
Jim was born May 8, 1932 to Dr. James and Margaret (Cowles) Heley in West Concord, Minn. He was a star athlete, musician and class president. 
He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Flom, on June 8, 1953, the day she graduated from St. Olaf College. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.  

Motorist refers to deputy as racist

Thousands of lead-foot drivers nabbed across state

During the two-week speed enforcement campaign across Minnesota in July, officers issued more than 13,000 citations, including 33 in Dodge County.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office led the county with 12 speeding citations followed by Kasson Police with 11 and West Concord Police with 10. The fastest speed recorded in the county was 82 mph.

Within the first few hours of filing for city offices on Tuesday, two candidates emerged as contenders for mayor of Kasson in this fall’s election. 
Current mayor Steve Johnson filed for re-election and will be challenged by at least one other person, Chris McKern.
