What is Relay for Life? 
Relay for Life was the brainchild of Dr. Gordon Klatt, explains the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life website. 
“In May 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

Luke Scherger’s request to expand his existing feedlot from 3750 head/1125 animal units of finishing hogs to 7500 head/2250 animal units was unanimously approved by the Dodge County Planning Commission last week. The request now goes to the County Board for final approval.
Feedlots have become a controversial issue in Dodge County in recent years and last week’s public hearing had comments on both sides of the issue.

The climate in the state of Minnesota is one that is constantly changing. In the winter, the struggle to stay warm as temperatures dip under zero is one that can be defeated by simply putting on another jacket or a couple more layers of clothing. But, in the summer, it’s not that easy.

Last Saturday’s Hogfest celebration saw more than its share of full size tractors between the antique tractor show and the parade. And there were some children’s size pedal tractors in town. 
But a look at a display on Front Street revealed a table full of scaled-down replicas of steam and gas engines that may at one time have seen their full size counterparts at work in Dodge County.

One-hundred-fifty tractors will be leading the big parade from Pine Island to West Concord on Sunday, Aug. 21.
This will be the 11th annual “Tractor Drive” sponsored by the Pine Island Lions, said Dean Weis, one of the drive organizers.
The drive always starts in Pine Island, he said, but tries to take a different route each year. The group has never made the trek to West Concord, he said.

They were “Horsin’ Around” at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon as the Dodge County Saddle Club put on a free event.
Area residents were invited to come to the fairgrounds and learn about horses. There were pony rides for the kids, Bruce Ebnet was giving wagon rides to everyone who was willing to climb on and there were hot dogs, chips and pop.

Lorraine Stussy, age 98, died Aug. 7, 2016 at the Parkview Care Center in Wells, Minn.  
Inez Lorraine was born April 24, 1918, to Claude Chase Robbins and Rena Thompson Robbins on their farm in Wasioja Township, Dodge County, Minn. She was the first of seven children. Through her father’s side, she was a descendent of many early colonial settlers to America, while her mother’s parents had emigrated from Norway. 

Meredith “Rusty” Skalicky, age 71, of West Concord, Minn., passed away on Aug. 5, 2016, at the Owatonna Homestead Hospice House.
