Last week I began to look at the changes that have occurred in the athletics at both Byron and Kasson-Mantorville over the years. Previously, I discussed the changes in both football and track and field. Today I’ll continue the comparison by looking at other sports.

In a bizarre set of circumstances, the current school board at Kasson-Mantorville is facing turmoil and a vacancy as two members of the same family with different roles within the district have resigned. However, one vows to come back after seeking re-election in next month’s election.

I received a phone call from a friend that I should check out a farm south of Kasson where they were threshing soybeans Saturday afternoon. I thought, did I hear right — threshing soybeans? Growing up I helped with threshing small grain with my dad and uncle and also some neighbor farms until they finally all changed to using a combine. I have been to threshing shows in Minnesota where they use the old harvesting equipment.

If voters in the Byron School District don’t pass an additional $800 per pupil ballot question in November, officials have made it clear drastic budget cuts would be coming.
But what those cuts would be, and how much would need to be cut from the bottom line, won’t be available until after the election, Superintendent Mike Neubeck explained in a financial update Sunday night.

In August, West Concord City Councilor Christina Wetzstein Peterson announced her immediate resignation from the City Council on Facebook.
Now, Peterson says she isn’t ruling out being the next Mayor should she be elected, as a write in candidate during the November election.
