Write in campaign begins for ex-WC Councilor

In August, West Concord City Councilor Christina Wetzstein Peterson announced her immediate resignation from the City Council on Facebook.
Now, Peterson says she isn’t ruling out being the next Mayor should she be elected, as a write in candidate during the November election.
“I have had some people in town ask me if I would take the mayor role if they wrote me in. I said I would consider it if I got the votes,” she wrote in a statement to the DCI. “ I myself am not running a campaign for it but others in town have taken upon themselves to create a campaign with me as a write in.”
In her letter in August, Peterson wrote “To the City of West Concord community. I want to Thank you all for your votes in 2022 for City council. I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign from my position on the city council effective August 27, 2024,” Christina Wetzstein Peterson wrote on Facebook.
“It has been a honor to serve on the council and represent our community Since Jan of 2023. I wish I could have had more of a voice on the council, but it seems that isn’t allowed or taken into consideration by a few people,” she wrote in August. “I ran to make the community a better place and to be a voice for our city residents and city employees. I feel my voice is not respected or heard.”
Peterson explained when people first asked her about becoming mayor through a write in campaign she laughed and said “ I really honestly (don’t) know. I am not into politics and I have no idea how to be a mayor.”
“As time has went on more and more people keep coming to me and asked if I would take it seriously if they were to write me in,” Peterson said. “I said I guess if the votes were there I would consider it. It is a big roll to take on and I have no idea how to be a mayor but I feel that I have a great heart for our community and the people in it. This community is an amazing one with great people with voice that should be heard whether they are small concerns or big concerns they have a right to speak up. I would advocate for them and do the best that I could to help the people of the community reach the goals that they want to set out to make West Concord succeed. I know not everything can be done at once and sometimes things don’t work out, but at least I could listen to them and try and help. We have a great support system for this town already and wonderful city staff employees and I believe that if we all worked together we could achieve some really great things for this town.”
Peterson in August also stated “My morals as a person are strong and my beliefs are stronger. Unfortunately, I can no longer serve as council member when my morals and beliefs do not align with this position any longer. Thank you for the understanding and I wish the entire council continued success in their efforts to better serve our community.”
In a statement to the DCI Jeff McCool wrote “Anyone may run or do a write in campaign. I wish all who choose public service to do the best they can and for the right reasons for the job. “
“As for this particular statement I find it strange that they want “open-honest” in their words, yet they post this anonymously,” McCool wrote. “ I also find it strange that they want someone that was in office and quit before the end of their term. Again it boils down to what the people want, and let the democratic process happen. I wish all candidates the best and want what is best for the community as I always have.”
