The American Red Cross urges donors to make an appointment to give blood to keep the blood supply as strong as possible in the final days of the year and into 2026.
Types O, A negative and B negative blood donors are especially needed now.

As in most years since our daughters have grown up and moved away from home, we have hosted most of the major holidays. This, of course, required a lot of preparation for meals and getting the house ready for company.
I will admit, the level of preparation I feel is necessary is a lot less than what my wife expects. So, we get everything ready because a happy wife means a happy life.

Triton’s school board in December approved the 2026 budget and a 17.3% levy increase, with the total levy amount set at $4,119,820.55.

Byron school board approves 17.5% levy increase

Following the annual Truth in Taxation hearing in December, the Byron School Board approved a total tax levy of $10,786,351.78, a 17.5% increase from the $9,215,144.46 levied a year earlier.
That figure included the amount contained in the levy referendum voters approved on Nov. 4.
The amount levied for the General Fund totaled $4,812,114.54, with $1,733,620 the result of the levy referendum.

Byron Schools’ suit against finance company on expedited court track

Byron Public Schools and its former financial management company were back in court last week, with the case put on an expedited litigation track.
The district alleges that School Management Services LLC (SMS) incorrectly projected expenditures, including staff salaries and benefits, resulting in a budget shortfall.
