Notice is hereby given that the Mantorville City Council will hold a public hearing at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, December 14, 2015, starting at 6:30 pm, or shortly thereafter, to consider an application for a variance from the height requirement for an oversized accessory structure.  
 

I played basketball for Cloverdale Christian School, a small Mennonite school with about 30 students. 
My siblings and I are not Mennonite, but the school district we were in would have required an hour and half bus ride both ways to school every morning, and that just wasn’t cool.

Another hard-fought game effort fell just a bit short for the Blooming Prairie boys basketball team. St. Clair held on for a 72-63 win in the home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 24.  
The loss dropped the Blossoms to 1-2 over the first three games.

The spirit of cooperation and recognizing those efforts were alive and well last week in the tiny little Steele County community of Hope.
Amidst a half dozen or so law enforcement officers and bank officials, the star of the show was a shaken bank teller who almost one year ago had a gun shoved in her face demanding her to hand over the cash.

BREAKING NEWS: Residents of Claremont evacuated due to gas main due to broken gas line
 
More than two dozen people were evacuated from buildings in the 200 block of Front Street in Claremont Friday afternoon after a worker struck a gas main while working in the alley.

The driver killed in an Olmsted County head-on crash on Thanksgiving morning, has been identified as a Byron resident, 24-year-old Casey Beach.
 
According to the state patrol, witnesses reported that a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Hwy 52 north of Chatfield, when it crossed the centerline several times before colliding with a southbound GMC Acadia.

This column series has largely focused on what sports can teach us about life. There are, however, some things we do in sports that never seem to find their way into real life. I’ve compiled my top five list below. 
Spanking teammates

Growing up in rural Minnesota meant only one thing in our household. Our radio was tuned to WCCO-Radio, the 50,000-watt blow torch that blankets much of the upper Midwest.
I grew up listening to one of the nation’s most enduring and popular radio duos of all time, Boone and Erickson. They were a hit in our household for much of their 40 years of existence, even before my time.
