Hundreds of fans lined the route Saturday as colorful semi- trucks paraded from the Dodge County Fairgrounds to Byron and Mantorville and back during the 18th annual Big Iron Classic.
It seemed like an endless line of trucks.
In fact, Big Iron organizer Jim Finn said, there were probably more than 600, driven by truckers from California, Washington state, Montana, Atlanta – “all over the place.”

hen I was younger, I was afraid of falling asleep. I was a rather weird child. To this day I’m still not sure what scared me so much about it, but I think I was afraid of waking up alone.
My mother blamed the caffeine I drank, and the sleep therapist she dragged me to couldn’t find anything wrong with me or my irregular sleeping pattern. But for some odd reason I could never fall asleep peacefully.

In Catholic school we learned reading, writing, 'rithmetic and religion. 
They didn't teach us much about agriculture. Unless I was sick for that day. 

Walking has become a great form of exercise for me over the past few years. 
I used to be a little more adventurous by taking up running as my main form of exercise. But other things seemed to get in the way and it fell by the wayside. 

Kasson’s new Kwik Trip gas and convenience store will open at 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.
A ve-day grand opening starts Tuesday, Oct. 24, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, said Kwik Trip district leader Will Welch, who oversees 16 stores.
The new, larger store is under construction across from the current store on Eighth Street Southeast.

Mantorville went from quaint hamlet to small metropolis and back to quaint in two days.
Parking was big city-like. People and dogs were everywhere, hundreds of them, and there was much to see and do: music and food and games and cars and crafts and fishing and music and Melodrama and food and reworks and the big parade.

In the season opener against Concordia Academy, Kasson- Mantorville boys soccer coach Leo Barbosa liked what he saw from his team. The KoMets were able to play sound defensively and were able to push the ball ahead to generate scoring opportunities which in turn generated confidence. Unfortunately, K-M wasn’t able to convert on those opportunities and left Roseville with a disappointing 1-0 defeat.

For a good chunk of the players on the field, the first game of the football season represents the first real varsity action in a young career. When that type of adrenaline hits, sometimes players can be too fired up and make costly mistakes that help a young player learn and grow. Other times, it can be a case of walking on eggshells not wanting to make that mistake.

My grandpa loves the newspaper. 
During the summers when I was younger, we used to stay at my grandma and grandpa's house. We didn't like daycare, and my grandma was more than willing to watch us. 
There are plenty of memories I have of my grandma's house, but the most distinct one is walking down her long, twisting driveway to get the newspaper.
