My feet and back still hurt as I write this, nearly 35 years later.
Young college students returning to school might be amazed to learn that, once upon a time, your predecessors had to stand in line to get their classes.
And then they stood in line to get their books.
Oy.

Charles Miller, 17, of Kasson, was named Poultry Prince on Aug. 27 during the Minnesota State Fair.
Mikayla Schlosser, 15, of Maple Plain, was named Poultry Princess.
“It’s just really cool, because I’ve been working for it for two years,” said Miller, who lives on an 80-acre farm south of Kasson. “It feels awesome to say I can advocate for the poultry industry and Minnesota 4-H.”

Del and Manny Guajardo have endured a major flood, carbon monoxide poisoning, their son’s rare bone disease – and a near-miss with the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. They have been giving back by helping people in need at their Kasson business, Sophia’s Thrift Store, which opened in October, 2016.
Now they’re heading to Texas.

Through citizenship education and leadership activities, a Dodge County teenager has engaged in positive promotion of Minnesota 4-H by serving as a state ambassador.
In her second year as a 4-H ambassador, Valerie Sauder served in a leadership role this year during the Minnesota State Fair. She was selected with about two dozen other 4-Hers from around Minnesota to represent 4-H as state ambassadors.

I know that school is just around the corner; I just don't plan on acknowledging it. 
I don't hate school, far from it. But I can't help the weird feeling of dread and excitement I get every time around the end of August. 
I've always found joy in learning, and I understand it's an important part of life, but something about the repetitive hours and constant homework is more then a little draining. 

The man responsible for killing Mary Malakowsky's daughter nearly 30 years ago was so drunk he could hardly stand up. His friends laughed and carried him out to his car and they even turned the key becaise he couldn't just befor he drove away. 
Ever since Shelly Malakowsky was decapitated and killed on the interstate near Faribault, her mother has endured unending nightmares. 

It feels like fall out there. Except for three or four hot days (maybe a couple more?),
it’s been a cool, wet summer. Great sleeping weather. Odd but nice to wake up wrapped in a sleeping bag in August in Minnesota. Normally it’s too hot even to think about sleeping bags, sweaters and jackets ‘til September or October.

The Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer team opened their season this week by traveling to Roseville to face Concordia Academy on August 24.
