Nugget Fields grew up in Arizona and is a first generation American as her grandmother and mother both were from Mexico and they spoke Spanish all the time at their home. Her father, George Stevens, was a rancher and was also involved with law enforcement in the Patagonia, AZ area. Since her father was also a gold miner he gave her the unusual name of Nugget.

The city of Kasson has decided to devote $25,000 to a new mental health care initiative and will partner with area health care agencies to offer community aid.
Funding will come from Kasson’s CARES Act funds. Called the Kasson Community Mental Health Initiative, Mayor Chris McKern is a driving force behind the plan to make mental health a priority.

As a kid, I used to deliver the St. Paul Pioneer Press morning paper to many homes and businesses around Kasson. I walked Main Street delivering to businesses like the bowling alley (yes, we did have a little bowling alley back in the day), hardware store and Daniel’s Restaurant.

A longtime Kasson restaurant will be closing its doors Saturday and reopening sometime in September under new ownership.
Danielle Schmitz announced the closing of Daniel’s and the adjacent 504 Tavern, on the restaurant’s Facebook page last week.
“It’s definitely bittersweet,” Schmitz said this week of the closing. “It’s been my whole life.”

Since COVID-19 interrupted life in Dodge County and surrounding areas of southeastern Minnesota, it’s been totally unusual.
First, businesses were closed, unless the State of Minnesota deemed them essential. Restaurants and bars were limited to carry out only, no inside service. No church services.

A memorial service for Lillian A. Aarsvold, who passed away March 20 of this year, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020. The gathering will be at Dennis Aarsvold’s home in rural Kasson, 68487 260th Avenue.
Sharing memories honoring “Lil” will begin at 9:30 a.m., a service at 11 a.m. and lunchatnoon.

Area cross country athletes have logged hundreds of miles this summer in preparation for their fall season, say coaches. While the Minnesota State High School League moved football and volleyball to the spring, cross country was maintained.
