DC Council OKs ambulance changes

Changes to Dodge Center ambulance staffing and a public hearing on the city’s cannabis ordinance were on the agenda last week at the last meeting of 2024 for the City Council.

Byron sets levy

The Byron City Council approved its levy, and tax rate at its annual Truth in Taxation meeting last week.
Since the preliminary maximum levy was approved, there has been no changes to the levy.

K-M December Students of the Month

Then and Now

Some well-known professional wrestlers came to the Kasson-Mantorville School for the K-M Wrestling Club fundraiser in 1979. Mad Dog Vachon, was a villain in the ring, but he also competed in the 1948 Olympics for Canada, while others had competed in amateur wrestling or on football teams. They were part of Verne Gagne’s AWA wrestling organization. Gagne was a two time NCAA champion wrestler for the University of Minnesota.

Flores family takes case to federal court

The case of an Owatonna teenager killed in a car crash in May is heading to federal court.
The parents of Olivia Flores have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, accusing former Minnesota State Trooper Shane Roper of violating their daughter’s constitutional rights and wrongfully causing her death.

Dodge County approves 3.5% levy increase for 2025

Dodge County Commissioners have approved the 2025 budget of $36,602,407, which includes a tax levy of $17,941,264. The levy is an increase of 3.5% over 2024. The total budget number, however, is 7.1% lower than last year.
The 2024 budget was $39,410,986 with a tax levy of $17,334,555.
