It is said that English is one of the hardest languages to master because there are so many rules and exceptions. Even as a native speaker, I regularly have to look up spellings and question which words to use in the correct context. If that wasn’t bad enough, some words or phrases just lie.

Since the United Way of Dodge County and United Way of Olmsted County combined forces through a merger in January of this year, our staff have been spending time getting to know the people and communities of Dodge County. In the last several months, we’ve met with local United Way partners like Faith In Action Dodge County, Semcac, and Healthy Smiles.

I think a lot of us have been trying to avoid the obvious but now we have to face it. Summer is over and fall activities have started.
It was a big weekend this past Saturday and Sunday with Marigold Days and the Big Iron Classic. Both of those events dry big crowds but we have to admit that they are the last of the summer celebrations and we can now turn our attention to fall.

Most youth have probably heard from older generations how tough it used to be. “When I was a kid” usually is followed by a description of how difficult life was for them as compared to what life is like now. Grandpa walked two miles to school in the snow and it was uphill all the way.

Dodge County Public Health has been working on an interim ordinance that will put any expansion of cannabis sales in the county on hold until January 1, 2025. County commissioners will be holding a public hearing on the proposed ordinance next Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Conference Room B at the Courthouse in Mantorville.
