Herman Hoerger Suess, 83, of Kasson, passed away Thursday April 18, 2019 at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Herman was born on Nov. 13, 1935 in Lancaster, Pa. to August and Anna (Hoerger) Suess. He graduated from Manheim Township High School in Lancaster, Pa. Herman married Helen Mowrer on Feb. 13, 1965 in Lancaster. They were blessed with two children, Bryan and Gary.  

Ramona Laura Asprey, 88, of West Concord, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Seasons Hospice House, Rochester.
She was born Feb.15, 1931 in Rochester the daughter of Haven and Myrtle (Berkner) Bartel. Ramona Laura Bartel grew up on a dairy farm near Kasson. Ramona was involved in her church and 4-H at a very early age. She enjoyed her cattle and helping in and outside the house.

The SELCO Author Tour 2019 came to Dodge Center last week in the form of Minnesota author William Kent Krueger.
Krueger, a St. Paul resident and writer of Minnesota-based mysteries, talked to a standing room only crowd in the meeting room of the Dodge Center Public Library. He talked about reading and books in general as well his own works which are set primarily in northern Minnesota.

Dodge Center along with sixty-three schools in Minnesota, will benefit from $2.3 million in planning assistance and infrastructure grants that support the Safe Routes to School program, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week.

Valerie Sauder of Pine Island and Katrina Thoe of Hayfield will serve as Dodge County Dairy Princesses for 2019.  

When people think of small town weekly newspapers they often think of a paper that comes out once a week and that’s it. For some papers that may be the case, but I am here to tell you that our paper is the furthest thing from that.
From time to time, I run into people and entities that think weekly newspapers don’t have the same reach as dally newspapers and large TV news stations have.

The Dodge County Seventh Day Adventist Church served up a variety of tasty international vegetarian fare earlier this month at its annual International Food Festival.
This was the second year for the event, said church member Donna McNeilus, who coordinated the day.

Schools across the state and country are always trying come with innovative ways to help their students learn better, and to be prepared for the future.
That’s exactly the case for the Kasson-Mantorville School District.
At Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School next year, there  will be changes made which will help students be prepared for middle school and high school.

Daniel Schiefert, 78, of Rochester, passed away peacefully and quietly at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester surrounded by the love of his family on April 19, 2019 after a living courageously and graciously with prostate cancer for 15 years.
