Save the newspaper campaign kicks off this week

The Dodge County Independent and its sister publication the Steele County Times have started a GoFundMe campaign this week to help the local newspapers survive what has become a tumultuous period for the newspaper industry.

Nash back on Mantorville City Council

After interviewing the two candidates for the city council seat left empty by the resignation of Ryan Christensen, the remaining Mantorville city council members appointed Luke Nash to fill the spot.
Christensen is moving to Kasson and so had to give up his chair on the council. His last official day is April 30.
Monday night, two candidates for the position were interviewed and Nash was selected.

Guardian angel led K-M Teacher of the Year to Kasson

When Curt Naylor was driving from Rochester to Mankato to pick up his transcripts on a September day in 1989, he stopped by the K-M district office, to drop off an application.
Around the same time Naylor had dropped off his application, the school district was scrambling after losing a first grade teacher at the beginning of the school year.

Hayfield runs winning streak to five

Hayfield baseball team had a tough game against Waterville-Elysian- Morristown. The Vikings would fall in that game by a score of 13-1and it was the equivalent of a horse stumbling out of the gate.
However, the baseball season is a marathon and one bad game can only dictate a season if a team lets it.

Thomas Aarsvold, 71, Minneapolis

Thomas Aarsvold, 71, passed away Monday April 15, 2019 at “The Villa” Health Center in Minneapolis, where he had resided due to failing health. The family would like to thank the staff of The Villa and especially Heartland Hospice in their care for him during this past year.

Betty (Peterson) Southworth passed away peacefully and suddenly on Friday, April 5, 2019 at age 98 while resting in the Chestnut Hill Mass. home of her daughter Rita (Southworth) Moerschel.
Betty led an active and very social life for almost a century, dying shortly before her 99th birthday. She was amazingly alert and active until the end of her life.
