Ronald ‘Ron’ Jeglum, 71, Stewartville

Ronald “Ron” Jeglum, 71, of rural Stewartville, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, from a short battle with cancer.
Ronald Duane Jeglum was born on Oct. 27, 1949, in Rochester, to Duane and Bernice               (Johnson) Jeglum. He grew up in rural Rock Dell Township, attended Hayfield schools and graduated from Kasson Mantorville High School in 1967.

KoMet wrestlers go 2-0 at K-W Triangular

The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets grabbed two HVL victories last Thursday night in Kenyon. Kenyon-Wanamingo hosted a triangular with KM and Lake City. 
KM wrestled Lake City first, winning 52-15. With a similar score, KM then beat K-W, 53-16. 
The most exciting match of the night came down to a stalling call for what appeared to be an untied shoelace.

Byron gymnasts coming around

The Byron Girls Gymnastics Team improved to 5 and 1 on the season as they tumbled their way past the LaCrescent Lancer on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The girls put together their best meet of the season with a score of 137.275.  LaCrescent finished with a score of 128.025.

Active in business, community Soland learned to balance time

Robert (Bob) Soland was a pastor’s kid who lived with a sister and brother in Rock Valley, Iowa (northwest Iowa about an hour from Sioux Falls) and then they moved to Elk Horn, Iowa (about 50 miles from Council Bluffs).

Kasson Hy-Vee offers COVID-19 vaccine

Kasson’s HyVee Pharmacy is among the Hy-Vee stores in Minnesota that have been added to the network of pharmacies offering the COVID-19 vaccination.
The local store received their first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine a week ago Monday and began distributing them right away, said Mark Lawrence, Kasson store manager.
Minnesota Hy-Vees received a total of 10,000 doses of the vaccine with the Kasson store receiving 120 of those.

Sheriff’s Office responded to COVID challenges in 2020

Dodge County law enforcement officials had to respond to a variety of challenges last year as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, Sheriff Scott Rose told the County Board last week.
“2020 was a challenging year for everyone,” Rose said.

Byron board begins search for new superintendent

Byron’s school board took the first steps towards hiring a new superintendent Monday night when they approved contracting with the Minnesota School Boards Association Executive Search for help in the search.
Board members heard presentations from several search firms before deciding to take the assistance from the MSBA.

It’s moving day for DCI!

Today’s the day! It’s the day we, the staff of the Dodge County Independent, move to our new location at 301 South Mantorville Ave. Suite 200, a.k.a. the old Shopko building.
We chose the location right next to Clem’s Cups & Cones for obvious reasons. (I know, no one was thinking of an ice cream cone last week when we were invaded by a Polar Vortex. But, summer’s coming!)
