Hy-Vee partners with Freedom Rock® artist to raise awareness of hunger

Hy-Vee Inc. has commissioned Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II, creator of the Freedom Rock®, to paint murals depicting Hy-Vee’s commitment to fight hunger in its eight-state region.
Sorensen will paint a specially commissioned mural to be installed at the Barlow Hy-Vee in Rochester from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, July 17.

Heat’s on and the corn’s head high

As we embark on the Dodge County Free Fair, holding true to mid-summer heat, the hot humid days of summer are encroaching on our county.
Corn has been surpassing the knee high by the Fourth of July and pushing to head high by the fair.
Without rain, however, the corn and soybean crops will begin to show signs of fatigue.

Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Papenfus, 66, Minneapolis

Ronald (Ronnie) Wayne Papenfus died of natural causes at his home at the age of 66 on July 4, 2021. Ronnie was born to Charles and Marjorie (Aulwes) Papenfus on March 12, 1955, in Albert Lea. Ronnie lived his childhood in Albert Lea, Austin and Dodge Center, Minnesota and as an adult in Austin, Texas, and Minneapolis.

Miriam R. Rogers, 78, Rochester

Miriam R. Rogers, age 78, of Rochester passed away on July 5, 2021 at her home. She was born Miriam Rebecca Fokema on April 24, 1943 in La Crosse, Wis. to Peter and Loreen (Gerdes) Fokema. 
Miriam graduated from a “one room” schoolhouse and received her Teaching Certificate and Master’s from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She taught in Viroqua, Wis.
