William (Bill) Joel Hughes, 84, passed away on Sept. 25, 2019 surrounded by family at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.

It’s hard to beat the same team twice, but the Kasson-Mantorville volleyball was able to achieve that feat as they beat Triton 3-1 on Saturday, Oct. 26, to advance to the section championship match.
Triton reached the semi-finals for the first time in eight years, and Head Coach Rebecca Goossens said her team had some nerves with playing at the Mayo Civic Center.

After Goodhue’s defense forced a quick three-and-out, the Wildcats received the Hayfield punt at their own 48-yard line.
Goodhue’s second play from scrimmage went 43 yards for a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion gave the Wildcats an 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
            Following another three-and-out by Hayfield’s offense, Goodhue took over at its own 37-yard line.

Coming off a 48-2 beatdown of Red Wing, the Byron football team had momentum on their side as they entered last Saturday’s game against Kasson-Mantorville.
            However, all their momentum soon went out the window as the KoMets scored on two big plays early in the ball game, held the Bears scoreless until late in the fourth quarter, and won 28-8 to advance to the section finals.

Head Coach Jared Pittman said he was overall happy with how his team fared at the section meet.
“We have had a few injuries and other nagging issues the last few weeks which did hurt some performances, but overall the kids still fought really hard at the end,” he said. “We had some really breakout performances and big PR’s. Isaac [Threinen] qualified for state too.”

The Triton school board honored Cobra Pride recipients, heard a report from School Resource Officer Deputy Dave Skadson, approved the sale/refunding of General Obligation School Building Refunding Bonds and approved a number of routine items at its October meeting.

Mantorville residents took advantage of cool fall afternoon last Saturday to come together to enjoy the annual Fall Festival.

It may be the most challenging play that Triton students have ever performed, all agree as they prepare for performances of “The Miracle Worker” next weekend.
“In 14 years of directing, it’s the most challenging play I’ve done,” said director Anne Schreiber. It has a smaller cast than other plays, she said, but she chose it because she knew the students could handle it.

Shrek, the loveable green ogre, comes to life in Kasson next week with the Kasson-Mantorville Drama Department’s all-school performance of Dreamworks’ “Shrek, The Musical!”
